# Name the distance. Get a loop worth taking.

Drop a pin, pick your sport and a distance. Traceway plans a loop from there and back, ready for your watch or bike computer.

Where do you start?

Traceway reads the _roads and paths_ around your pin.

It tries the ways back. _Three_ come out best.

The one closest to your distance wins. _The rest fade._

Arrows show _which way round_ you go.

Want to pass through Bergom? Add it as a _via point_. The loop bends to pass it.

Done. Your watch or bike computer _shows the way_.

## Three moves. Then you go.

No fiddling with the map. Say where, how far, and which sport. Traceway finds the route.

### Drop a pin

Your driveway, the trailhead, a hotel on holiday, anywhere in the world. The loop starts and ends right there, on foot or on a bike.

### Name the distance and the sport

40 km on the road. 12 km on foot. A ride and a run read the map differently, so the same pin gives a different loop.

### Take it with you

Put it on your Garmin, COROS, Suunto, Wahoo, or Hammerhead. It shows you the way by itself. The phone can stay at home.

## One pin. Seven sports.

Run, trail run, walk, hike, road, gravel, and mountain bike. On a bike you can ask for quiet roads, paved or dirt. On foot, the loop does not steer round busy roads. Any sport can keep the climbing down. Or [put several in one plan](https://traceway.online/#multisport).

### Road

Quiet lanes and cycleways first, with fewer busy roads.

### Gravel

Pick Dirt, and the loop uses fewer busy roads and can take rough ground too.

### Mountain bike

Pick Dirt for tracks and paths, and Hilly to let the climbs in.

### Run

Streets and paths you can run on. Pick Flat to save your legs.

### Trail run

Pick Hilly, and the loop stops steering round the climbs.

### Walk and hike

From a 5 km walk to a long day out. Pick Flat to keep the climbing down.

## Swim, ride, run. One plan.

Plan a brick or a full triathlon in one go. Each leg gets its own sport and distance, and they meet at your transition. Train at real race distances, or meet friends along the way.

### Brick

Ride, then run straight off the bike. Race-distance bricks, from a sprint to a full Ironman.

### Triathlon

From a super sprint to a full Ironman. You draw the swim on the water. The ride and the run follow the roads.

### Duathlon

Run, ride, and run again, at sprint, standard, or Powerman distance.

### Aquabike

The swim and the ride, with no run. Standard, middle, or long.

### Loops or a chain

Every leg can start and finish at your transition. Or chain them, so each leg ends where the next begins, handy when friends meet you with your gear.

Each leg tries not to use a road you have already done.

### Race distances

Pick a race and the distances fill in. Triathlon, swim, ride, and run:

- **Super sprint**: 0.4 · 10 · 2.5 km
- **Eighth (1/8)**: 0.5 · 20 · 5 km
- **Sprint**: 0.75 · 20 · 5 km
- **Quarter (1/4)**: 1 · 42 · 10 km
- **Olympic**: 1.5 · 40 · 10 km
- **T100**: 2 · 80 · 18 km
- **Ironman 70.3**: 1.9 · 90 · 21.1 km
- **Ironman**: 3.8 · 180 · 42.2 km

Duathlon, run, ride, and run again:

- **Sprint**: 5 · 20 · 2.5 km
- **Standard**: 10 · 40 · 5 km
- **Powerman**: 10 · 150 · 30 km

Aquabike, swim and ride:

- **Standard**: 1.5 · 40 km
- **Middle**: 1.9 · 90 km
- **Long**: 3.8 · 180 km

## Leave the phone at home.

Your route goes onto your watch or bike computer, and it shows you the way by itself. No phone, no signal.

On a Garmin, it warns you before turns and tells you where to find water, a toilet, or a café. It shows the climbs ahead, too.

Planning a triathlon? The ride and the run each arrive as their own route.

- **Garmin**: Turns, stops, and climbs (Add the Traceway app from Garmin's Connect IQ store and pair it once with a code. Your latest saved routes then load over your phone. No cable. Or press Send to device in the planner and add the route in Garmin Connect.)
- **Other brands**: COROS, Suunto, Wahoo, Hammerhead (And most watches and bike computers that can load a route.)

[Get the Traceway app for Garmin](https://apps.garmin.com/apps/a0c32e89-323f-4522-9ee8-c6af6cce14c3) (Free in Garmin's Connect IQ store, for most Edge bike computers, the Fenix 7, and the Forerunner 255, 265, 955, 965, and 970.)

## Or just ask for it.

Use Claude or ChatGPT? Connect Traceway once. Then ask for a route in your own words, and it shows up on a map in the chat, saved and ready for your watch.

- “A 40 km gravel loop from Westerlo, past Tongerlo Abbey”
- “A flat 10 km run from Gent-Sint-Pieters station”
- “A sprint brick from Hofstade lake”
- “Show my last five routes”

[Connect your AI](https://traceway.online/settings/assistants) (Works in Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, and VS Code. Traceway is an MCP connector, the open standard these apps use to work with other apps.)

## No feed. No club. No public routes.

Traceway is a solo planner. **Your pin, your loop and your Sunday morning stay yours.** Nobody sees where you start unless you share a link, nobody ranks your day, and your routes are never listed for anyone else.

There is nothing to scroll and nobody to keep up with. **You get a line that is worth the day, and the quiet to take it.** The map is OpenStreetMap. Choosing the loop that fits your day is our job.

## Before you drop the pin.

### How do I plan a loop that starts and ends at my house?

Drop the pin on your house, pick a sport and a distance, and Traceway plans a loop that comes home another way where the roads allow. Or type your address into the search. You can ask for 5 to 200 km.

### Can it make a running loop or a circular walk for me?

Yes. Pick run, trail run, walk, or hike, give a distance, and Traceway plans a loop from your pin.

### Will the loop be as long as I asked?

Usually close. Traceway tries a few loops near your distance and picks the best, so asking for 40 km usually gives you about 40 km. Where roads are few, it can come out longer or shorter, and the planner shows the real length.

### Can it find me a flat route?

Yes. Under Hills, pick Flat, and the loop avoids climbing where the roads allow. Pick Hilly instead to let it take the hills rather than go round them. The planner shows how many metres you go up and down, and can colour the steep parts on the map.

### Can I keep to paved roads, or find gravel?

Yes, on a bike. Under Surface, pick Paved to favour tarmac, or Dirt to use fewer roads and allow unpaved tracks. The planner then shows how many kilometres are paved, gravel, or dirt.

### Can it keep me off busy main roads?

On a bike, yes, as far as the roads allow. Leave Roads on Quiet first, as it starts, and the loop leans on cycleways, paths, and small roads. On foot, the loop does not steer away from busy roads.

### Can I make the loop pass a particular place?

Add a via point. The loop bends through it and still brings you home, and tries not to use the same road twice.

### Will it show where to find water, a toilet, or a café on the way?

Yes. The planner marks water, toilets, and cafés just off your route, and lists how far along the route each one is. On a Garmin, your watch or bike computer warns you before you reach them.

### Can I follow the route without my phone?

Yes. Load the route once, and your watch or bike computer shows you the way by itself. You need no phone and no mobile signal on the way.

### Which watches and bike computers work?

Garmin, COROS, Suunto, Wahoo, Hammerhead, and most others that can load a route. On a Garmin you also get a warning before turns, and before water, a toilet, or a café.

### How do I send a route to my Garmin and follow it?

On most Edge bike computers, the Fenix 7, and the Forerunner 255, 265, 955, 965, and 970, add the Traceway app from Garmin's Connect IQ store and pair it once with a code. Your latest saved routes then load over your phone. Pick one and press Ride it, Run it, Walk it, or Hike it, and the device shows you the way. On other Garmins that can follow a course, press Send to device in the planner and add the route in Garmin Connect.

### How do I send a route to a Wahoo, COROS, Suunto, or another brand?

Press Send to device and pick your brand. The planner gives you the right file and the steps for Wahoo, Hammerhead, COROS, Suunto, Bryton, Polar, and others. You can also connect a Wahoo or Ride with GPS account once under Settings, then Devices, and send each route there in one tap.

### Can I put a GPX file someone gave me on my watch or bike computer?

Yes. Open the GPX file in the planner, for a route up to 300 km, and keep it as it is, turn it round, or start it from your own door. Save it to find it in the Traceway app on your Garmin, or press Send to device for any other watch or bike computer.

### Can I share a route with a friend?

Yes. Open the route in Saved routes, press Copy link, and send it. Your friend can see it on a map and download it for their own watch or bike computer, without an account.

### Can I follow the route before I go?

Yes. Press play on the map and a pin rides the whole route for you.

### Can I plan a triathlon or a brick?

Yes. Pick a brick, a triathlon, a duathlon, or an aquabike, then one of its race distances, and the legs fill in. Or set each leg yourself.

### Does Traceway route the swim?

No, there are no roads on the water. You draw the swim on the map yourself, and the planner shows how far you have drawn.

### Can friends meet me at a handover?

Yes. Put each handover on the map and give each leg its distance. Drag a handover to move it.

### Can ChatGPT or Claude plan a route and make a GPX file?

Yes, once you connect Traceway (ChatGPT needs a paid plan for that). Add traceway.online/mcp as a connector, sign in once, then ask for "a 40 km gravel loop from Westerlo". Traceway, not the AI, plans it on real roads and paths and saves it to your library, with a Garmin file and a GPX file for your watch.

### Will it work where I live, or on holiday?

Yes. The pin goes anywhere with roads and paths on OpenStreetMap, from your own door to a hotel in a town you do not know. The loops on this page start in Westerlo, Belgium, where Traceway is built.

### Do I need an account?

Yes, a free one. It keeps your routes in one place, so they reach your watch and stay yours.

### Is Traceway free, with no subscription?

Yes, and it always will be. There are no ads, no subscription, and nothing to unlock, so every feature is open to everyone, even sending routes to your watch or bike computer. Traceway is made by one person who loves the sport. If you enjoy it, you can chip in for the hosting.
